Alistair Darling delivered his first budget on 12th March 2008, David Cameron said ‘listening to it was as interesting as listening to someone reading the telephone directory!’

 

He had trailed in the press that he would not be pulling any new rabbits out of the hat. He was right - Gordon Brown had announced a lot last year that would be effective this year.
